This approach fails to demonstrate when and why claims of conscience should be taken seriously by others. I draw on Hannah Arendt&#8217;s deliberative model of conscience and Cheshire Calhoun&#8217;s social model of integrity to develop an alternative relational view of conscience &#8211; one that demonstrates that the relevant values are social as well as personal.
